They call it freedom flight

Well today was another busy day. We started out by qualifying with our 9mm pistols which was farily easy for me. They pop targets up at different ranges form 15 to 40 meters and you shoot them down. Then we went to the M4 range. That was a little more difficult for me but I got it done nonetheless. In theater we will carry both weapons. I feel very fortunate and kind of special since most people coming through here only get one or the other and I get both. It made for a long day on the ranges though.

After qualifying we got our transportation brief. We were told the plane we will be flying on is called the freedom bird. Yeah it makes me wonder who the smartass was that got to nickname that flight.

Today things have finally started to hit me. I think everyone else is feeling somewhat the same way. I am both anxious to get to where I am going and get to work and part of me would rather just go home. The latter of course isn't an option. I do miss Micca and the kids terribly already, but I think that is pretty much understood by all.

I appreciate the posts and would love to hear from anyone about anything. I will hopefully start posting some pictures soon once I can find a better connection.

Later for now

Back in the blogging saddle (maybe)

It has been awhile since my last entry. So much has happened. First and foremost Micca and were married on the 29th of February. We enjoyed our 21 days together before I had to leave. I sit here now at Ft . Benning working through the mobilization process. We are suppose to leave on Friday which would put us in Kuwait before the end of the month. I hope I hit the ground before the end of the month since there are many advantages in pay. We should only spend a short time in Kuwait (less than 24hours) and convoy out to Camp Echo.

I am excited to get this part of our deployment over with. Our accommodations here are ok but honestly I would rather be in Iraq so I could get settled in and into my routine. We still have a couple days of training left. So far we have received our new high speed equipment. The new helmet is nice but the body armor seems to grow more and more. With all of the plates and accessories it weighs in around 45 lbs. I don’t know if we will wear every piece of it since we won’t be in a high threat environment. So far I have 3 duffle bags of equipment they have issued. I processed through medical yesterday and felt fortunate to only have to get 2 shots. I got my 9th Anthrax shot. They told me I could get 250 bucks when I get back for a pint of blood since I had more than 6 shots. Today we finished all of the personnel stuff like life insurance and pay and what not. Tomorrow will be spent in the classroom and the day after on the range. The weather should be nice as it is a very nice time of year to be in Georgia.

Well that’s all for now I hope to be more diligent in my blogging in the future.

If you have questions or what to know more please feel free to post your questions and comments. That makes it easier for me to have something to write about.
